Grayscale Investments launches a pro-bitcoin ad campaign arguing that goldinvestors are living in the past
“Why did you invest in gold? Do you live in the past? “
Thus begins a new national television commercial that urges investors to throw gold and invest in Bitcoin instead. “They see where things are going,” the spokesman explains. “Digital currencies like Bitcoin are the future.”
The ad comes from Grayscale Investments, the crypto investment firm behind the listed Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), which grew 66% this year. Grayscale manages $1 billion in assets and offers similar investment vehicles linked to Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ethereum, Zcash and others.
Grayscale’s parent company is the Digital Currency Group, the world’s largest crypto venture capital fund. DCG owns Grayscale, Genesis Trading and the Bitcoin news site CoinDesk and has invested in more than 145 crypto currency startups including Coinbase, Ripple, Coinlist, Circle and Protocol Labs. Barry Silbert, who founded the SecondMarket trading platform and sold it to Nasdaq in 2015, is the founder and CEO of DCG and Grayscale.
Although television advertising ends with advertising for the grayscale bitcoin trust, Silbert says, “We don’t see this as grayscale advertising. #For us, DropGold is our “Got Milk. This campaign is primarily designed to start a conversation about Bitcoin vs Gold. If the ad leads people to be interested in Bitcoin, we don’t care how they deal with it. “

The ad will be broadcast nationwide next week on linear cable and business news networks and on OTT streaming video platforms such as Hulu.
